…went to a mandatory parent meeting tonight at Sal’s school.  Well, the last 30 minutes of a 90 minute meeting. Catherine covered the rest.

It’s strange, being there with other parents, in this crazy competitive environment, pretending that we’re not competing with each other.  Maybe we really aren’t.  Yet.  But we will be.

Sal got a little concerned last night when we said we were going to go to his school and talk to his teachers.  He brought up how he always puts his chair back in place. A clear sign he expected his teachers to mention that he didn’t put his chair back in place, huh?  It was cute.  But now that I saw all the other parents, I couldn’t help but wonder – do their kids put their chairs back in place?

Ha. I didn’t. I’m not that competitive.  Yet.

I am looking forward to the next couple of weekends where we get to go through the classes and material that the kids will go through.  Who looks forward to going to pre-school again?  Still, it seems like we’ll pick up on some of their montessori theory and maybe, if we’re lucky, be able to implement some of the spirit at home. Those flash cards with dots were useless rote memorization tasks…but it is nice how Sal can glance at sets of objects now and tell you how many there are without explicitly counting them out.

And sometimes he’s even right.
