Brian’s not necessarily ready to embrace the minivan that is in his not so distant future. Me neither, though I think he’s got a little more velocity towards that state than I do.
We’ve chatted about it. What would make things so much easier is if they made a man’s version of the minivan. Like the Magnum is the man’s version of the stationwagon. You see it lowered. With tinted windows. With a Hemi engine in it.
We need the same thing for minivans.
Why not just go with a Magnum? Those sliding doors make a difference. In a crowded parking lot, with fancy cars nearby, in a rush — opening the doors to get the kid out is a pain. The sliding door takes a lot of the hassle out of the process. Captain’s chairs; not so much – I could go either way on those. The sliding doors are the key.
So – either make a toughened up version of a minivan – with big wheels and rims and tinted windows and loud engines; or add sliding doors to the Magnum.
Brian’s pointed out that Pimp My Ride might be able to do some of this custom work – but we can’t win our way onto Pimp My Ride. But surely, someone else must be able to implement this idea…
-The *remote operable*, sliding doors make a huge difference. Seems like my hands are full much more often with kids than without them.
– Early on, having seats elevated was nice. Bending over and reaching in to put a toddler in a car seat was annoying.
– The styling of an SUV isn’t that different from a mini-van. Why can’t they jut one exactly the same?
Stick with the wagon idea. http://www.mbusa.com/models/main.do?modelCode=E63S It even comes with tail gunner seats like the old Ford Country Squire your friend’s parents had. How cool would Sal and a friend look with their faces plastered to that rear window as Catherine blows the doors off that Porsche next to her at the light?
