Spent an afternoon with Sal today because Sandy had a migraine and Catherine has a real job. The only meeting I couldn’t call into was a basketball game at 4 – so I figured Sal would come to that and whoever was sitting out could entertain him. Sean and Miles did a great job. When Catherine did show up, she was looking around for Sal. “He’s over there, sitting in the dirt.” Which sounds worse than it was – he was sitting in a volleyball court.
But it was a fun afternoon – very big change of pace from a work day or a weekend. He was on a few conference calls with me, but we still managed to get gyros for lunch, pick up Chapo from the groomers, watch a little Kai-Lan, so he can pick up some chinese (so that he could pick up some chinese…man, I crack myself up. We’re thinking he needs to learn a little chinese so that he can talk to Abigail at school, who doesn’t talk back to Sal, because – we’re hoping – she speaks more chinese than english.), get to work and high five the people that weren’t going to play basketball…
Best part of the day – his smile when he saw me when he came out of class (he was expecting his nanny) and then him saying “Now you picked me up 2 times.” Which is true. I like his memory.
Except that he says his mother’s picked him up zero times and she’s done it once. When we were driving to dinner I was talking to him about how he shouldn’t always ride with me, because even though I love it, his mother loves it too. So he should pick her sometimes. And he picked her after dinner to ride home with, after a longer than normal decision making process.
I guess I didn’t say he should make it easy.
