“I don’t really want to goto school today” Sal casually mentioned this morning while we were just playing around on the couch.
“Why not?”
“I learned everything already.”
“Really?” I picked him up and turned him around to look him in the eyes.
“Really!” His eyes were full of energy and possibly knowledge.
“How high can you count?”
“TEN!” which was accompanied by 10 equally enthusiastic fingers.
“You need to learn how to count higher.” But my reply didn’t seem to phase him. “What is today?”
“I don’t know.” Still smiling.
“Well, you need to learn the days of the week. Do you know at least what month it is?” And as I asked it I was thinking it wasn’t really a fair question, because the last time he was in school it was August and now it’s September. And Just yesterday, when I was filling out some paperwork, I put 8/31/08 instead of 9/1. So I was going to accept September or August as valid answers.
And he took a deep, excited breath so he could exclaim “THURSDAY!”
