Our jobs, because they are focused around sporting events, have strict deadlines. The NBA isn’t going to move the season start date because our data feed is having hiccups. In fact, they do the opposite, where each year, they make things more and more challenging to track and follow.
Spring training this year has teams in the grapefruit league and the cactus league and a couple that are either in both or at some point, neither. It can be a pain sometimes.
Then you have people’s vacation schedules that need to be worked around big sporting events. Someone, without naming names, got married in a remote location a while back, and not every one could go, because some one had to stay and take care of the site for march madness.
So having a calendar, with the major sports events listed in it, is pretty necessary in this line of work. We use twiki’s and websearches to find things out sometimes. But now, SI’s done us a favor with this handy dandy calendar. Need to know when the PGA Majors is, just flip through the calendar. Need to know when the finals are for March Madness? NBA Draft? What day do the Olympics really start on?
Yup – it’s all right there. A big productivity boost if I could only get past the fact that it is from a competitor…I dunno. Will be hard.
