Star Wars thread in my life over the last 32 hours…

Yesterday, I was having a blast with the new Star Wars WebMessenger. Probably annoying a few people with my (yoda) and (vader) and (r2d2) [which is my favorite] stuff.

Was talking to a PM in our group as well, getting some work done and occasionally using a stormtrooper to shoot at him. When he mentioned that he used the R2D2 Translator to create a ringtone for his wife.

I thought that was cool. I asked what the ringtone was saying. He said “Your phone is ringing” followed by an “obviously”.

And I guess, this is where I diverge from the norms, cause that wasn’t so obvious to me. I had thought immediately, that it’d be a contact ring tone, something like “Mom” or “Dad” or “Hubby” or whatever the contact’s name would be. And that his wife would have a set of 50 ringtones, all with different R2D2 beeping patterns and over time, she would learn to understand R2D2.

That’d be awesome.

I told that story to Catherine last night, hoping she would jump at the challenge. She went to sleep instead. But tonight, she was asking more about it, because…ha…I forgot part of the story.

When I asked my co-worker why he didn’t use his name as the ringtone, he said he didn’t like the way it sounded in the translator. So Catherine was caught up in that part of the story – like how bad could it sound?

I offered that maybe for his name, R2D2 just farts, and that’s that. Which would be pretty awesome too. Some freebie public domain tool out there that, for a few random names, instead of giving a cool R2D2 beep array, it just has an R2D2 fart. Which would make people with those random names wonder what they did to deserve such treatment. Which reminds me of a story for another time. Anyway, Catherine laughed with/at me and then went to sleep.

So today, she’s asking about what this guy’s name would sound like. And we typed it in and it wasn’t that bad. I mean, it wasn’t an R2D2 fart, just some beeps and stuff. Then I typed in a phrase and played it for her.

It wasn’t what she thought it was, but I liked what she thought it was. So, it’s my new contact ringtone in her phone.
