i went to go see the 3rd graders i help out with this week and one of them asked me if my knee hurt still – cause the healing process of from the scrape up in dodgeball has not completed. and i said it doesn’t
hurt, it just looks bad, cause i’m not healing quickly, like you youngsters – to which he showed me his knee, which had some crazy scar along it, like a surgery scar. he said he got that when his leg got ripped up on a chain link fence. yeah. that one’s gonna stick with him for a while.
anyway – when i told catherine i’d play in the work basketball tourney, her first question was – “Aren’t you afraid you’re going to get hurt?” and though i felt a minor jinx going on, i figured that i was gonna get
hurt anyway – might as well play and enjoy myself until then. I just thought it’d last more than 15 minutes or so.
jammed toe. i’m kind of impressed by the way it happened. i’m going for a rebound, a guy steps in front of me, i sort of stub my toe against his leg, and then i land immediately, so instead of my foot/leg kicking
back and being fine, it’s wedged up way too close to his leg. and then my weight comes down on it. forcing something to give. i figured i just cramped up a bit – played on a through the pain for a few minutes – my
guy scoring on me several times. finally someone appears that can sub in – so i get out. take off the shoe. kind of afraid – kind of interested in what i’m gonna see. well, my big toe decided it had to give – and it moved back into my foot. and was stacked up ontop of my foot. and was about a half inch shorter than normal. and at the connection of my foot and toe – there was a good sized lump of just plain old wrongness. somehow i was able to push it back down and get it lined up properly. i feel i can wiggle my toes – so it can’t be that bad. but that’s just somatasensory stuff – when i look at my toes – they ain’t really wiggling – they’re trying and saying they are – but i think they’re just too swollen to really move.
we’ll see how fast this heals.
yesterday i didn’t have an enormous sandwich either. my streak was really short. and the effect were immediate. i don’t see why i taunt fate the way i do. cause i’m not having one today either. stay away from me. nothing good can happen.
