Too much programming, not enough TV.
Starved is my new curious show. I’m not sure if I like it or not, which, cause I’m wired funny, makes me kind of like it. It’s pretty raw -? the dialog often feels like the dialog I’d be engaging in while drinking. So that’s a plus. But do I like them stealing my thunder? They’ve got some clever lines that make me jealous.
And it touches on some topics that I can relate to – much in the way that Mind of the Married Man did – that is, I get nervous laughing about them infront of Catherine.
The serious overeater guy – he ends up going into a dungeon, to do “research” for a story/book he’s writing. He ends up partaking in a couple fantasy room/packages. The first, he’s on the couch, watching a football game, yelling at the submissive, telling her to shut up, cause he’s watching the game. She, playing the submissive role, comes over and asks him what he’s going to do about it. He tries to spank her – but does so half-heartedly. He then really admits what he wants – just goto bed. She asks “…and?” real pouty like and stuff (quality actress). “And??? And be quiet, so I can watch the game.”
He’s a big guy. He eats a lot. The support group that these characters are all a part of is pretty crazy too. School of tough love I guess – a lady said “If you were a dog, I’d kick you in the face.” I don’t know how to react to that line. I mean, why kick a dog? Just kick him. But at the same time, it’s kind of supportive, cause she’s trying to say, you’re more than just a dog…and you can beat the addiction. There were other lines, but I don’t remember them that well.
So the main dude – he gets addicted to colonics. And he even starts dating the colonic administerer – dunno if she’s got a better title than that. But, he starts getting jealous of all the other clients, cause I guess, the whole process is kind of intimate. He happens to share his thoughts while getting a colonic. And his thoughts kind of piss her off (something about how she’s really just a handjob away from being a sexworker). So she leaves him. But he’s still in the filling up stage of the colonic.
So he shouts out for help and none comes. She’s busy talking to a co-worker in the distance, saying stuff like “I can’t believe what he just said…” and well, he keeps filling up – till he can’t take no more. And tubes pop out and the liquid starts to evacuate his body…and he’s running around on all fours trying to find the bathroom. Fluid flowing all over the place. On the people outside the room sitting in the hallway waiting for their turn. On other staff members who happen to walk by. They really did a nice job with the slo-mo camera work too…lots of good expressions on people’s faces.
I guess, now that I’ve written this, there really shouldn’t be any question – I do like this show…
The main character is also the writer/director – who says it is more than semi-autobiographical. I like that. The writing seemed really honest before I knew that – and maybe that’s why.
aw jeez, i don’t want to be your co-conspiritor in support of bad taste but i’m also watching this show. watching that guy scuttle around on the floor with a geyser shooting out his ass was priceless. of course, scott can’t stand it.
