At least, interesting to me.

I’m lazy. Really lazy. They say that lazy programmers are the best, because they constantly try to automate tasks – making them more productive. But there has got to be a threshold. Cause I think I’m so lazy, that I don’t even get around to the task that should be automated, making me not even care about automating it…which I think in the end, is less productive.

Yeah – so I’m tired of these data sets, yet when I deal with them, they’re really not that bad (even manually)…so I think I shouldn’t be so lazy since it’s never as hard as one thinks it is and it is also rewarding to actually do stuff.

Still, I don’t think I’m going to get over the hump on my ROM machine task. The ROM machine is a work out machine (pictured above) that will give you a good day’s workout in only 4 minutes. A great device. It just costs 14k.

4 minutes. But $14,615. Still, only 4 minutes. Yeah, but it’s $14,615. This conversation has gone on for years in my head. The price hasn’t gone down much either. To be fair, the 4 minutes has been pretty constant too.

I got the video a while back. Catherine, Kevin and I watched it. It was a pretty cheesey infomercial but there are all sorts of moving parts and flywheels and resistance is going on both ways…it looked like a lot of work. It is a combination rowing machine and stairmaster type thing. And if you keep it up for 4 minutes, well, it seems like you’d be winded.

ROM stands for range of motion. Their big pitch is that you’re using more of your muscles on this machine so you’re getting a more complete work out and that’ll burn more calories through the rest of the day, than you get doing an exercise with a smaller range of motion. I’d buy that. But at 14k, it seems a bit risky.

So – it seems, that if this works, one could just make a killing by creating the “gym for busy people”. Maybe you need a better acronym. But not much more.

You just need 4-5 ROMs and a set of showers. Let people book in 15 minute intervals and they’ll get their day’s workout in 4 minutes, with 11 minutes for relaxing and cleaning up. As business picks up, the pre-work, lunchtime and post-work time slots could get more expensive. Basically, you’re renting out the ROMs, while able to sneak in your own 4 minutes every day too inbetween sets. Win-Win situation.

Anyway – when you make one of these gyms, let me know. I want to try out that ROM. Maybe you’ll comp me a membership, cause it was my idea?

My other idea will come up later, when I’ve worked more of these data sets over…

…cause I’m too lazy.
