But I knew that. It was part of the fun of saying it that way. They’re sophisticated, this lunch crowd.

So, I went through a much longer story about pings, and DNS resolution and failed traceroutes and other mumbo jumbo, till, I got some sympathy, where they could see how the problem I was having would be something that is very difficult to convince comcast tech support of (Catherine has tried – lots of time spent with tech support, who kept on trying to convince her that something was wrong with her laptop and that she should be calling IBM tech support instead…) and that even if we did convince tech support that we knew what we were talking about and that they had a problem on their hands, their tech support guy wouldn’t really know what to do.

My hope, going into this conversation was to get a better idea about how to go about solving this tech issue that is kind of out of my hands and kind of in, well, comcast’s hands, but I had know idea how to get in touch with the right comcast hands…

But the lunch crowd was kind of just sympathetic and real quick to say “Yeah, you’re screwed.” Until Brian gave me a glimmer of hope. I had mentioned that one way around these bad routes was to go through our work VPN – then everything was okay. And Brian said that’s what he usually does anyway…but now that I’ve mentioned it…there he had some issues with login.yahoo.com. Yeah. Brian lives in our same city block. He’s the most likely one to have a broken internet too. But he’d call it something else. Something I wouldn’t remember if I heard cause I wouldn’t understand it. But hopefully it’d be the same thing.

He spent a few days in denial, but today, he fessed up – his internet was broken too. He just hadn’t noticed it as much as we had. And now, we had to figure something out. Well, that’s a step. I was hoping it would be “and now, he was gonna figure something out”. But it wasn’t. It might have even been “and now, cris needs to figure something out, cause it’s effecting Brian too”.

I asked Catherine to call in again and try and get them to send a techie out – hopefully for free. Scott said as long as it’s their fault, it’s free. If it is your fault, you owe them $50. Seemed like a good gamble to me. We just want it fixed. But Sal woke up before Catherine could get off hold. I sent in an email and got back a form letter, telling me that they knew of the problem, they were working on it, and they have no idea when it will be fixed. I replied asking for money back. They haven’t responded.

But…but…but…

BUT…now that I’m trying to pull up a bad page, so I could take a picture of it and use it for this posting, well, it looks like my internet ain’t broken anymore…guess they were worried about the idea of bad press? Maybe they’ll still give me some sort of refund though.

And my internet is still slow…(600 downstream. just 600).

As a side note, I’m splitting up my personalities. And nesting 360 accounts. I’ve got another one now, that’ll be more work related.? Hopefully, there’s a good reason behind this. Besides just to divide my crazy personal life from my crazy work life. Cause some might like that distinction…but, I’m gonna add it as a feed. I kind of like the recursive 360 imagery for my mental landscape.

I said that at lunch the other day.
