So – I went to the Showtime site to grab this image.
And when I came back, I was at the good ol’ sportsblog page (183k page views now – not too shabby I think considering we opened it up to the public in July or so) and there was an ad…
…for Dexter. A pretty good ad – something I’m interested in. I can’t be upset with the advertisement if I’m already a fan. It’s still appropriate.
Usually, I don’t like shows with narration. But this show does it pretty well for the most part, helping highlight the internal struggles that socially disfunctional folk have to endure throughout the day. Or so I would guess – I mean, it’s not like I know what they go through or anything…
Of course, the timing is a little too perfect, but, hey – this is TV – we don’t have time ot wait until the character has the realization in realtime. I mean, maybe on 24, but not for Dexter.
The story is pretty simple and pretty complex – which is part of the appeal. He’s a forensics cop. Specializes in blood. And now there’s this serial killer out there, in Miami, who is killing, but leaving the bodies chopped up and without any blood. This is very confusing to the police department, but especially interesting to Dexter. Challenging. Puzzling. Confusing. Thrilling.
See, Dexter also happens to be a serial killer too. His dad was a cop. His dad noticed that he was a little off kilter – that he wanted to kill. They allude to some experience that would never let him be the same again…and discuss his feelings about killing. Then his dad helped him focus his urges to kill to be done for good. Kill only bad people. Like Robin Hood – but instead of stealing, kill them.
They writers use flashbacks to help understand how he got to be the way he is – and I imagine they’ll be sprinkled throughout the season, to keep us wondering. Fine by me – I’ll be there…
It’s my favorite show so far for this new season. Though “The nine” starts tomorrow. But since it is on network tv, it doesn’t really have much of a chance for surpassing Dexter.
No time machine in the mix – so I just might be able to understand it. There’s a group going to watch Primer at work sometime – I might watch it again with them. They have some PDF that supposedly has the timeline. Except that there are like 6 timelines. And when I started to look at it – I didn’t like what it had to say. Or rather, I had questions immediately.
we’re watching “dexter” & while i think the main character is well done, i don’t think the show is better than say, “veronica mars” or “heroes”.
& btw: saw “primer” & both scooty & i really liked it. thought it was clever & well done on what was clearly a shoe-string budget. the only think that didn’t tie in for me was: what the hell was the deal with ben’s girlfriend’s dad?!
Congrats on the 183,000 page views. That’s not too shabby, indeed.
you know, when i read about this show i was wondering if you were going to watch it. it sounds like an interesting show, but we don’t have showtime, so i won’t be checking it out. boo for me.
